Underslab Dampproofing

The damage caused by soil moisture rising through concrete slabs is a problem that is often overlooked, resulting in dampness, mold, damage to floor covering and contents etc., but one that is easily remedied in new construction.

Many builders install a polyethylene vapour barrier and pour concrete over it in an attempt to remedy the problem. While polyethylene vapour barriers are fine for walls and ceilings, they are not a good solution to underslab dampproofing for two reasons.

  1. They are readily damaged by normal concrete placement procedures.

  2. Low density polyethylene becomes brittle and porous when in contact with the high alkaline environment presented by concrete. (The same holds true when placed over a concrete slab as a vapour barrier.)

Platon is a PERMANENT solution to rising damp in concrete slabs.

Manufactured from high density polyethylene, Platon is tough enough to withstand normal concrete placement procedures without damage and is unaffected by alkaline in concrete.

PLATON - DON'T BUILD WITHOUT IT!
Platon is manufactured in Armtec's plant from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), the same material used in corrugated plastic drain pipe, one of the toughest and longest lasting plastics. Platon provides a permanent water and moisture barrier.
